Promotion Ceremony

Promotion ceremonies are a common part of our Air Force tradition. The purpose of the ceremony is to provide public recognition and acknowledgement for appointment to a new rank among unit members, family, and friends. The ceremony and receptions may be small or very extensive, depending on the preference of the promotee.

During ceremonies, all civilians (men and women) should stand during the playing of Ruffles and Flourishes (if used), during the playing of the National Anthem, the reading of the promotion orders, during the playing of the Air Force Song, and as the official party departs.
