Retirees now have the option of having Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuity payments go directly into a special needs trust for a disabled child according to changes to the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2015. This special-needs trust statute only applies to a disabled dependent child, not to disabled spouses.
You can read more about the change and how to find more information by reading the full article from the Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) at: http://www.afpc.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123469095
Ellsworth AFB Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) families are now able to utilize the Air Force Respite Care program. The program is free to eligible families and offers 12 hours of respite care each month.
To be eligible, families need to be enrolled in EFMP and have a child with severe or moderate special needs. Respite care is also available for the siblings of eligible children.
If you have questions about respite care or anything EFMP, please contact the Ellsworth School Liaison Officer at 385-1381.
